New Amazon Prime Video TV Shows and Movies in August 2025

Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are Prime Video's latest mismatched yahoos

Prime Video is finishing up the summer movie season with one last splashy film that it hopes will become a home box office hit. The Pickup stars Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson as mismatched armored car drivers who get pulled into a scheme to steal $60 million from a casino, and it checks all two boxes required of an action comedy: explosions and wisecracks. If it tracks with Prime Video's other high-profile original films this year, like Heads of State and G20, it should fall somewhere between "that wasn't a total waste of time" and "I mostly just looked at my phone."

The better option in August is Daniel Dae Kim's action drama series Butterfly, which is adapted from a graphic novel and stars Kim as a spy whose past comes back to haunt him. There's also the final season of Greg Daniels' comedy Upload and the series premiere of the Terminal List spin-off Dark Wolf. Elsewhere, all seven seasons of NBC's 30 Rock hit Prime at the top of the month, all three seasons of Bryan Fuller's Hannibal arrive at the end of the month, and the horny foods of Sausage Party: Foodtopia return for Season 2 in the middle of the month.

Below, you'll find our picks for the best shows and movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video in August as well as everything coming to Prime Video this month.

The Pickup (Aug. 6)

For the second straight month, Prime Video is releasing an action comedy starring two familiar faces as mismatched partners who get in way over their heads. Last month it was Idris Elba and John Cena in Heads of State; this month it's Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson in The Pickup. In the movie, Norbit and Chad play a couple of armored car drivers who get roped into an attempted casino heist worth 60 million bucks by a slinky crook (Keke Palmer). Prime Video loves to churn out these kinds of original films, even though they have a shelf life of about two weeks. [Trailer]

Butterfly (Aug. 13)

Daniel Dae Kim stars as a spy on the run in this adaptation of the 2015 graphic novel by Arash Amel and Marguerite Bennett. Kim's character finds himself pursued by an assassin after a choice he made years ago comes back to bite him in the behind. It was filmed in South Korea and features dialogue in both Korean and English. [Trailer]

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (Aug. 27)

Prime Video's The Terminal List came out almost three years ago, but before we get a Season 2, we're getting a prequel spin-off. (This is how TV works now, apparently.) Dark Wolf focuses on Taylor Kitsch's Ben Edwards as he goes from Navy SEAL to the CIA's special ops, and, in keeping with the flagship's theme, will focus on the human cost of warfare with an emphasis on authenticity. Chris Pratt, star of The Terminal List, will make an appearance in Dark Wolf[Trailer]
